Saffron Hilder was selected from highly competitive pool of co-op students for her outstanding academic achievement and successful completion of three co-op work terms. Her final placement was with Hutcheson & Co. Chartered Professional Accountants, the firm that also proudly sponsors the award. Importantly, the award selection is based on academic and co-op performance, underscoring the merit of her achievement.

Saffron recently graduated from 磁力猫 with a BBA in Accounting and a co-op designation. Following graduation, she received a permanent job offer at Hutcheson & Co. working under a supervisor who is also a proud 磁力猫 alumn.

鈥淚 am extremely grateful to receive the job offer from my co-op employer. I intend to stay with the company as I work towards my CPA designation and establish a career in cross-border tax accounting."

During her co-op work placements, Saffron built professional relationships, learned new software and technology, and explored career paths by collaborating with colleagues across the firm. The experience allowed her to contribute meaningfully to Hutcheson & Co. and receive valuable feedback on her performance.

鈥淪affron recognition is well deserved. It鈥檚 serendipitous that her last work term in winter 2024 was at Hutcheson & Co., and that she has now joined the firm as a staff accountant. In career advising we might even call this 鈥榟appenstance鈥,鈥 says Jennifer Phillips, Co-op and Internship Coordinator for Camosun鈥檚 Business and Office Administration programs.

Hutcheson & Co. has partnered with 磁力猫 since the 1980s, consistently recruiting Camosun co-op students every winter. The firm generously sponsors the Gordon Hutcheson Memorial Co-op Award for accounting students, and holds an award from Camosun recognizing 10 years of employer participation, dated 1986.

Reflecting on her journey, Saffron adds, 鈥淭hese co-op placements enabled me to learn and adapt to an office environment, pick up new skills, and benefit from the guidance of mentors. I gained confidence in my skills, knowledge, and education and it confirmed for me that I have chosen the right career path."
